Family History

It’s all about connections.

If we can only find them
we can all find our dynasty
we can all trace our family
back to its royal beginnings
see their place in that dynasty
through their connections.

If we can only find them
we can all be back there
then.

If we can only make them
we can all be there
now.

J’Accuse

It was almost accidental.
A reasonable response
to an aberration
of history.
You were all involved
in its creation
unchecked.

Monitoring
would have seen it starved
of self-deceit
acknowledged the lies
but you fed and watched it grow
fatter and fatter.

The Age Of Confusion

This was no room with a view
but a walled-in space,
a Matryoshka place
of confinement
each inside
the other

nightmarish,
unsettling,
fearful
even
a surreal world
styled by Magritte
perhaps
embracing confusion
as an opportunity
to see things
differently,
ordinary things
re-ordered
and re-filed
into

a Magrittean metaphor
for this Age of Confusion
so fearful
so unsettling
like any dream.

Master Or Servant

It was said he was the Master,
the Ring-Master in the circus of life.
All the animals succumbed to his power.
He was a true professional,
top of his class.

But humans were outside the ring,
and so they evaded his power,
made sure he knew his place
in their scheme of things.

Yes, in their scheme of things.
it was them who cracked the whip
and made sure he knew that
he was servant not master
of two-legged beasts.

And that is how he knew his place.
It was all he had
for then.

The Curse Of Consumption

I can hardly remember my early life
when I wiggled and wriggled
embryo-like
blindly
consuming
all before me.
I know I sensed the warnings
not to bite off more than I could chew,
but consumer of cliches that I was,
I carried on regardless
making a meal of everything
I could swallow,
even the words.
I could feel
that
change
was coming
and eventually
it happened!
I made it happen!

My curse became a blessing
and I broke out
of my hard carapace,
split open the shell
that had become my prison,
did my best to leave it behind
to have a look at the world outside
and continue my cruise of consumption.

Nothing was sacred
I ate it all
and grew fat,
so fat,
too fat.
So fat I felt ready to explode.

And then it happened,
I swear,
it was like a nuclear explosion
inside me
all the dust and debris of decadence
solidifying
into something unspeakable,
mushrooming
into something unintelligible
to be spewed out
of my big accursed mouth.

I don’t know what
will become of me now.
I don’t know what
I will become now.
