The Monster in the Mist

Hand stamped
the language
is unfamiliar
if you
didn’t live
it, if
you didn’t
hide it
how easy
sleight of hand
how easy
to cover
with smiles
and accomplishments
but the fear
the danger
measured, weighed
now out
in the open
the creature
gets too
confident, arrogant
extremely real
and then
caught whether
or not
you believe it.

A Broken Language

I open myself
Fully

I dig through
My past

Trying to write
The pain away

I just sit here
And cry

Are tears words

Once they’ve fallen
Upon the page

I open myself
Fully

I dig deep
I wade

Through what was forgotten

For reasons

Unspoken reasons

These tears fall

These words
Born of memories

Once blacked out
Put in a box

Under a box
Behind a box
Within a closet

Door’s locked

Hidden key

I open the door

I open myself
Fully

Trying to write
It all away

The page fills with tears

These words
All end up smeared

Forming a broken
Language

Very few

Care enough to

Understand

I’m not sure if I could hold any of this in, even if I wanted to. Poetry.. my therapy, my friend, my release.”

Light Came Darkly

your way of language
dry against the bone
a mad scientist god
moving in another direction
driving to a plane beyond
the color
the blue moon
my love
while light came darkly
ripping heart and stone
and a monument crumbling
soft places
and the underground
I am wanting I am wanting
and the never promise
I hear a voice that lasts five centuries
and what I could not deliver
a better world

Nothing But Time

I have nothing but time
and nothing to brag about.
I have nothing but a
healthy desire to feel well.

I am walking through mist
in a fog filled life. I can
barely see a star up
above in this climate.

I get carried away
in these uncertain days.
I read your mind, but a
whole lot is missing. You
are not an easy book.
You speak in an unknown
language I cannot learn.
