He gave me his heart

for the new year
To the sound of the chimes
Sealing it in scarlet beads
On blue velvet
And they rest in thoughts…
And my happiness seems like a ghost
And I’m afraid to touch him
So that he doesn’t melt
Like a snowman
under the headlights of a blue truck

CMP Featured Writers JAN. 2024

Happy New Year from Cajun Mutt Press!!! I hope y’all had a great time over the holidays. I want to thank everyone who sent in some work last year. We published a ton of fantastic literature and artwork in 2023! CMP wouldn’t exist without its contributors. Enormous thanks to the readers as well. I hope y’all dig what we’ve been putting out into the world. I love every one of y’all.

Onward and upward to 2024!! I’ve got a few things to go over. First, manuscript submissions are officially OPEN until January 31. I already have a few lined up to work on. I’m also planning to focus more on our new magazine, Night Owl Narrative, and cut back on publishing books. So if I accept your book and can’t get to it this year, I’ll schedule it for 2025. Below is a link to all of our past titles. Including my new one, I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag. Please leave a review if you grab a book!

Night Owl Narrative Issue No.1 is officially available! Plus, I’m about halfway through filling the second issue and still have more submissions to go through. Keep sending work! If I can’t fit you in the second, I’ll put you in the next one–and so on. I’ll be working on No.3 soon. Send your artwork, poetry, prose, short stories, flash fiction, etc. Anything goes; no theme. Thanks to everyone who submitted so far!

You can also submit work for a featured writer spot! Featured writers are posted every Mon/Wed/Fri on our website and social media pages. Send 1-3 poems to cajunmuttpress@gmail.com for consideration. Send magazine submissions to the same email. Please include a bio and author photo with all submissions.

Looking forward to the year ahead! I don’t have any resolutions for 2024 other than my plans for Night Owl Narrative. I hope y’all dig the direction I’m taking, and I hope they all come to fruition if you have plans or resolutions for the new year.

Cajun Mutt Press Featured Writers, Jan. 2022

Happy New Year!!! The first day of 2022, and I already hit a minor hiccup with the featured writer schedule. Skipped a date somehow, but I worked it out. Ebb & Flow.

Did y’all do anything to bring in the New Year? I got stoned with my muse, binge-watched Cobra Kai, barely made it to midnight, then went to bed. Didn’t even hear any fireworks in the neighborhood last night, and we usually do. Thinking about it now, it was oddly quiet. Like we were trying to tip-toe out of 2021 without tripping an alarm.

If any of y’all partied down last night, I hope it was fun. Nothing wrong with cutting loose. Now, let’s get THIS party started. Below is the January lineup, and I’m always open for submissions. Send 1-3 poems to cajunmuttpress@gmail.com along with a bio and author photo. I have six spots left to fill in April then I’ll be reading for May.

Also, manuscript submissions for 2022-23 publications are officially OPEN!! Send a word doc (50- 100 pages give or take) to the same email. Keep your eyes peeled for our first 2022 book release as well. 𝘚𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘋𝘰𝘸𝘯 by Wilfred Hildonen, coming in February. I’ll make an announcement soon with an exact date.

As always, love y’all, keep kicking ass. I hope everyone has a great year. Let’s rock & roll.

Write On,

Happy New Year from Cajun Mutt Press!!!

This is the time of year most of us stop and take stock of our lives. Start new things, give things up, make resolutions. Some of us tell ourselves we’re going to do things that we never end up doing anything about…except beating ourself up about it all year until next January first. For others it’s just an excuse to party and have fun.

It’s a little combonation of all when it comes to me. I’ve changed some things I said I would over the years, still working on a few other goals, and when I party I fucking party, but the new year is all about change when you step back and look at it. 2020 fucking sucked in a lot of ways, no doubt about it, but it’s over now. This is our chance to turn a new leaf, then roll it up and pass it around so even if things don’t get better at least we’ll all be stoned.

Well, y’all know what time it is, below you’ll find this month’s featured writers. I’m also always open for submissions so if you’d like to send some work shoot 1-3 poems to cajunmuttpress@gmail.com along with a bio and author photo. Currently reading for April. Also, I am NOT taking manuscripts at this time. The 2021 book schedule isn’t final yet, but I have plenty of manuscripts. I fully appreciate your interest, but please, stop sending them for now. I’ll make an announcement when I’m taking them again.

Have a blast bringing in 2021, and keep reading, keep writing, keep sending your work. Love y’all, Happy New Year from Cajun Mutt Press!!!

Happy New Year from Cajun Mutt Press!!!

Wow, what the hell happened to 2019? Feels like the year drove by and slapped me in the face through the window of a hot rod, then shot me the bird as it tore off into the sunset! Makes me wonder if that black hole the scientists found is slowly sucking us in and making time speed up. If that’s the case, then hopefully the alternate reality we’re in when we get crapped out the other side will be wicked cool. I’m talking Keanu Reeves as president, world peace, no hunger, no poverty, intergalactic travel kind of cool. That or we just get obliterated, but let’s hope for the best.

Anyway, enough jibber-jabber, below you’ll find the list of writers on the roster for January 2020. As usual, you can send submissions to cajunmuttpress@gmail.com along with a bio and author photo. I have a few spots left in March then I’ll start filling April. I’m not taking any more manuscripts until I get caught up a bit with the books I have scheduled, but I’ll let y’all know when I’m open to reading them again.
