UN-GOTH CONFESSIONS
- I hate Perriwickers [ long pointy-toed shoes ] and Creepers [ thick
chunky-soled shoes ]. Both are clownish and ugly. The main point
of being a Goth is to try your best to look like neither. - I despise bondage. As a person of West African descent, the
fascination with whips, chains and the master/slave dichotomy
reminds me too much of fucking slavery. Leave that in colonial times. - I never liked music by Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths and
solo material by Morrissey. More profuse crying than actual singing
from any of them. - I have no Goth friends–living near me or otherwise.
- Only 50% of my wardrobe is black.
- I’m too chickenshit to apply Manic Panic colour dye to my hair–
when I had hair! - I never had a Goth girlfriend.
- I’ve never read Dracula, Phantom Of The Opera, The Hunchback
Of Notre Dame, Interview With The Vampire or Jane Eyre. [ The
Twilight books don’t count as legit Gothic lit in my eyes. I prefer my
vampires to burst into extraordinary flame when faced with sunlight,
not have skin that sparkles like diamonds in its hot shine. ] - I’ve never worn black fingernail polish.
- I’m no longer a Goth.
