Ring in the New

Vengeful rage of waterfall
dour in the dregs of midnight.

The rabid wash of sand
in an hour glass.

Let the wine of Dionysus
spill and quench their thirst.

The dead are not here
they do not dance

nor harbor resentment
or bear names.

As the iron bells of cathedrals
ring in the new

the old passes unnoticed in
fleshy trenches where

no one remembers
and nobody cares.

Vintage Room

Cobwebs hanging
in obscure corners
of this darkened room
the spiders are
no where to be
seen
mice scamper at the
speed of light
the hole in a
busted old
wall welcomes
them home.

Snow Drift

Kindred spirits,
snow drifts and
the owl takes
refuge from the
storm.

Field mouse
appearing
from unthinkable
night, brave as a
rogue shooting star.

I huddle in the safe
confines of suburbian
refuge, regrets and
bourbon, the dark
and the light; intertwined.

Words spoken in
homage to the dead,
I forgive you, echo the
ghost of a tortured past.

Orange and red flames
intermingle, logs are snakes,
hissing upon a sputtering fire.

In a flash, the power shifts
to the owl outside, claws
snap, a stranglehold,
the mouse never stood
a chance.

Aventures and Sailors’ Tales

That drunken, wandering, aimless, fool, sailing the
seven seas; and then some. At bars and pubs around
the world, I took a dive into that dark realm, took a
drive down into that abyss.

I sold my soul to that ol’ devil and everything I had
for just one more round. I proposed a toast to youth
and naivety, a toast to all my friends, those shipmates
of mine, more like a brotherhood really.

Mugs and bottles raised to all those ladies of the night,
anyone that would gather around, in every port of call,
just to hear those sailors’ tales, of the high seas’ and of
America, America; land that we love.

Tales all those places we were have sailed to, adventures,
where life and limb were risked night and day, where
sanity was lost behind the mask of Dutch courage.
