breasts

i wish i could wear a blouse
unbuttoned just enough
to collect your gaze,
my breasts just big enough
to draw your lust,
but not your rage or
your terror,
just enough to allow me
to be me,
free onto myself and
to no one else,

i wish i had breasts
just big enough to fulfill
my affirmation, my sense of reality,
but not so big to incite your anger,
not so big to allow for your vulgarities
and violence,
an opportunity to be murdered,

but then my birth did not
provide this opportunity
and my fear and age will not allow me
to take that chance –

honorarium

i have a disability
a madness
my hair is thinning
and my pants don’t fit

i struggle with language
and timing
with words on a page or
in a machine
i cannot not see straight
light remains dimming
telephones keep ringing

i live with an addiction
a sorrow
my pancreas is seizing
management is calling
my debts will not slow

i am addled with indecision
there’s a glow from a window
lightning keeps striking
my madness says hello
