The Lost Boys
They are the Lost Boys— they are the boys null & void:
“The Singer,” “The Songsmith,” “The Artist,” “The Poet,”—
if fake jobs were real jobs, they each would be employed.
They gather together past one in the morning
& talk in low moans about how it’s all so hard
living on their daddy’s dollar in the houses
that their daddies bought for them— the “Future” is just
a word to them, a myth in some foreign language.
There is no Neverland, Peter Pan, & Wendy
left you for another man, ’cause you’re just a boy;
best try your luck with Tiger Lily before she
meets someone else or disappears like Tinker Bell.
We all know you can’t really fly & Captain Hook
will be avenged, despite what’s said in children’s books.
