Demon Moon

a demon moon
skulks stealthy around
the pitch sky.
dark clouds drape
over the town
like a shroud.
short runs the
trail from here
to total damnation.
the scent of
sulfur permeates the
street and structures.
only the sun,
through all diffusion,
offers any light.
in the dimness
some pray to
outmoded and dated
soft-clay deities.
some shovel ash.
All, however, have
come together to
bury the present.
