Bat Ballet
this is the nature of
the world we inhabit
someone is eating
someone is eaten
climb up on back for a taste of the feast
the blood of the beast
growling and groaning
drinking it in
created in flesh soft and moral
with wings of angels
immortal
they can hear you with their eyes
see you in the dark
the serpents and cats wait patiently
with documents for claws
and fangs designed
a cloud of dust in the blistering heat
and then the thieves, with a scream and a giggle
run off with your tripe, your face, your meat
young in the morning
dead by night
hung high in your sainthood
horror, pity, no place for the hidden
what was once pain is now joyful relief
this is the nature of
the world we inhabit
