WE’LL TOUCH THAT HORIZON
the child might ask the question
after her pet hamster
or kitty or goldfish
dies
and we might say yes
but not for a long
long time
or we might lean
on the promises
of a god
a heaven
we no longer believe in
just so she can sleep tonight
now
as we slowly suicide
we worry
about darkness
and blood
on the horizon
yet
if I reminded you
this is one horizon
we’ll reach someday
whether by plague
asteroid
or swollen sun
I believe you’d use
the same logic
with me
that’s a long
long time
from now
